Have you experienced tooth loss? If you are missing a tooth, or several teeth, you understand how it can lead to embarrassment, withdrawing from social and professional interaction, and difficulty speaking and eating regularly. Dental implant surgery, performed by Find Out More, Dr. Elliot Ostro, may be the perfect solution for your tooth loss. Dental implants are small titanium posts that are inserted into the jaw where teeth are missing. The implants themselves act as a replacement for the root of the missing tooth, and serve as a foundation for a crown, bridge, denture, or final restoration to be attached.
The entire dental implant process usually takes about five separate appointments with Dr. Ostro. The first appointment would consist of a consultation with our Find Out More, X-rays and radiographs will be taken, and Dr. Ostro will determine if the area where the implant will go is in good enough condition for the surgery to be successful. The second appointment is when the actual implant will be inserted into the jaw. At that point, it will need to integrate with the bone and heal before a replacement tooth is attached to the metal fixture. It can take anywhere from 3-6 months for the complete restoration to be finished. During your third appointment, Dr. Ostro will take an impression of your mouth so your future crown or bridge can be customized and created for you. At the fourth appointment, you will test out the crown or bridge in order to ensure that it fits properly. It will then be permanently implanted into your mouth. The fifth and final appointment with our New York City oral surgeon is when the implant-supported denture is delivered, and is adjusted according to your comfort and needs.
